Q&A WITH LISA

QUESTION: What or who inspired you to be a writer?

LISA CAINES: I loved reading Christopher Pike and R. L. Stine books as a kid. They really got me into reading.

QUESTION: What do you like most about writing?

LISA CAINES: I love writing as it helps me to relax and allows me to get my thoughts out in a creative way.

 

QUESTION: What writing projects are you working on?

LISA CAINES: Children’s books with colourful illustrations I drew myself

 

QUESTION: What other writers would you compare your style to?

LISA CAINES: I wouldn’t really compare my writing style to any other writers. 

 

QUESTION: What is your writing process?

LISA CAINES: My writing process is to brainstorm as many ideas as I can and then narrow them down into the most interesting ideas.

 

QUESTION: What's your favourite book of all time?

LISA CAINES: My favourite book of all time is The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

 

QUESTION: Who is your favourite writer and why?

LISA CAINES: My favourite author is Stephen King. He really knows how to bring characters to life and make you feel like you’re experiencing what they are.

 

QUESTION: Where do you see your writing in five years’ time?

LISA CAINES: Hopefully writing kids books or mysteries.

 

QUESTION: Tell us a little something about yourself?

LISA CAINES: I’m 41 and from Newfoundland, Canada. I love to read, write and draw. I go for walks on the beach in the summer and I love hanging out with my cat.

 

QUESTION: If you weren’t a writer, what carer would you have loved and why?

LISA CAINES: I would like to be a cartoonist. I love drawing and bringing characters to life.

 

QUESTION: What one, key writing tip would you share?

LISA CAINES: One key writing tip is to try not to force your writing. I find when I focus too hard on something it gets harder and more frustrating. As a result, it takes longer. Try to relax and let the words come to you naturally.

 

QUESTION: What would you say to educate inspire new writers?

LISA CAINES: I would say to never give up on your dreams, no matter how long it takes.
